GdayLA is a special event designed to educate students about our state's
number one industry, agriculture! Organized by the Los Angeles County
Agricultural Commissioner, the L.A. County Farm Bureau, L.A. Chapter of
California Women for Agriculture and 48th District Agricultural Association.
The day offers two, 2 and a half hour sessions full of valuable hands-on
educational experiences for selected fourth grade students in L.A. County
schools. It provides a fun and exciting way for teachers to address the 4th
Grade State Standards. AGdayLA will be an eye-opening event for many kids
who don't know where their food comes from or have never seen a live farm
animal.
Interactive exhibits will feature farm animals, insects, bees and more. The
children will find out how cows are milked and how fiber is spun into
thread, and learn about nutrition through a live Food Guide Pyramid.
With more understanding of agricultural processes, students will be better
equipped to deal with crucial issues of nutrition, environment and resource
management, and to understand the value of agriculture in California and its
critical role in our state's economy.
